Claude Monet Poplars (Autumn), 1891. The Poplar Series paintings were made by Claude Monet in the summer and fall of 1891. The magnificent trees were in a marsh along the banks of the Epte River a few kilometers upstream from Monet's home and studio. Claude Monet (14 November 1840 – 5 December 1926), a founder of French impressionist painting.
